Isn't it remarkable that we have this thread going at the same time as the "profanity on the web site" thread. Although ancient I have a 12yr old son and a 9yr old daughter and both are taking an interest in bikes and bike racing. I am trying to bring them up as people who will respect others but find this being undermined by some on this site who think that their personal liberty over-rides my attempts.
I have taken my son to the Silverstone WSB round for several years, camping throughout he weekend. Last year was the first time we encountered any trouble, a bit too much booze had had it's effect on a couple of fellows resulting in a lot of shouted obscenaties and threats of violence (not to me or my son, but we were in the midst of it).
I have to say that I was slightly fearfull of a good kicking, but I did approach the culprits and told them that I wasn't happy with this conduct, particularly since they were frightening the s**t out of both me and my son.
I'm so pleased to say that their response was total and abject apology. To be honest I was quite shocked by their humility. Perhaps there are others on this site who could learn from this.................
