Just a thought, the R1 will ultimately lose its value compared to the 916. In time, an '01 R1 will simply be an old R1, whereas the 916 will hold a certain amount of value.
Whether this happens in the 18 months timescale you mentioned, I don't know, but certainly a couple of years down the road it will.
