There's a number of things that affect tire performance in the rain. Most important is the need for water to escape to prevent hydroplaning, so tread pattern is important. Second, is the danger of slippery road surfaces until enough of the oil film and antifreeze buildup is washed away. Third, is the surface water's cooling effect on keeping tire temperatures from reaching their optimum stickiness. Trying to increase tire temperatures by dropping pressure for rain use isn't likely to have much success at street speeds. Be careful out there ... |
