Isn't it a case that anyone who is head and shoulders above his peers will always appear to lack any consistant competition? The same could be said of Rossi - who has really challenged him? Biaggi? Gibernau? Despite the sometimes lack of pace of the Yamaha this season, he'd still be doing very nicely. If it wasn't for a tyre failure in China, an off in practice at Assen, and 2 engine failures (particularly Le Mans where it was in the bag), he'd be well on course for another title.
It's just pure class that sets these people apart...
