I had something similar recently.
No rear light, but brake light fine. Indicators fine. Headlight fine etc. I also didn't have any dash lights though.
Turned out to be a wiring fault in the ignition switch. Don't know much more than that. Had it fixed at mechanic's and that's what they said!
