As an aside its worthwhile keeping an eye on what your own service providers are up to.
I'm with NTLworld and often have to reboot the cable modem as it locks up every other month or so however, they also have a status page to let users know to expect something might be happening:
http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/ Your own provider might provide something similar.
