I use a Sykes Picavant tool. It's a spring steel strap that is tightened around the filter, then use the whole tool as the lever.
The harder you push, the tighter it gets.
It's universal, and hasn't failed to shift a filter in over 15 years!!
They still make 'em to, I think.
