| Halfords do a filter removal tool that has a steel strap that wraps around the filter. Works great on dukes as it can get around the back of the filter and doesn't rip the filter apart.
The problem with using the hammer and screw driver is that if its tight the filter will rip apart leaving the top still screwed into the receased engine case and no way of getting it out! I know I've been there. |
