My advice, be big and drop it. No matter what you have thought about, afer the fact, you have made the basic mistake of making an admission of guilt, "between 45 & 50" that's enough to convict you without a gun. Even if he was picking up a response from the otehr car, you admited speeding too. 50 in a 40 limit, effectively.
It's a bugger, I got flashed this week too. Risk of using the UK roads these days I am afraid.
