My 2p. I spent 20 years analyzing accident scenarios for nuclear plants and designing equipment to mitigate damage that could possibly lead to radiation release. I'm convinced that there's enough defense-in-depth and equipment redundancy to address any postulated failure event. The question is ... are we smart enough to anticipate all the credible accidents and factor in operator errors correctly. The lessons of Chernobl and Three Mile Island say no. Just my 2p. |
