Disadvantages: not a smooth airflow around the pods as in an airbox, the crankcase breather is not connected to the inlet any more (both good and bad)

Advantages: you save some weight (not that much though) and you have more open space in that area (handy when you need to work on the bike).

Many people like the TPO velocity stacks with those huge K&N filters on them. I haven't seen clear proof about how much better these are compared to an open/modified airbox.

If you end up using velocity stacks, it would be interesting how they affect power (without any other mods apart from setting the A/F).
