     I had a 94 900ss that this happened to.  turned out to be one of the drives - but I can't remeber if it was inside the tacho or at the engine end. It was repairable (as opposed to having to be replaced)
 
 You could always buy a second hand tacho, but check that it's not the drive from the engine that's gone first.
