Sorry to hear about your spill - hope there's not too much damage to either you or the bike!

Anyway, standard setting for rear preload is 9mm i.e. wind off preload 'til the spring is completely unloaded then wind back up 'til the spring is 9mm shorter.

Thinking about it, it's a 160mm spring as standard on a Ducati Ohlins so the above mentioned 151mm spring length is the same as carrying 9mm of preload.

As NB says, make sure you measure with the rear suspension unloaded.

What weight of spring have you got on there? If you don't know, list all the writing on the spring. Adding or removing preload is not always the magical solution! Weight of rider needs to be taken into account so it could be you have a less than ideal spring on there - preload won't sort that out!
