steel vs aluminium

Dropped into see my bike being serviced today at alfs motorcycles while speaking to alf he said that my clutch is fine at the moment but suggested i think of changing to an ally clutch basket and ally plates when my steel one becomes too worn ( he showed a worn one from an sps ).

my question is surely aluminium is softer than steel and though it may cut down on clutch rattle wont it wear out quicker??? and i don't fancy changing my clutch any more than i would with a steel one.

Alot has been posted on this board about oil feed to the heads and this was shown up by needing a new exhaust rocker on the rear pot. I hadn't changed the oil at 3000 mls after the 6000 service i think i might do it next time round !!!
