Most sound peice of advice mate, thought I'd chop me 750ss in for a nice shiney 999 until I had a test ride on one. Couldnt get on with it, most uncomfortable saddle I've ever sat on! Worse than the KH500 I had as MY first "big" bike at the age of 19. One of my mates got an xs1100 at 21, another got a Z-thou at 20. None of us came off after learning the ropes on our 125's/250's of the time, well not until last year anyhow!
Think my insurance is gonna be going up a bit this year too
