Thats one of the issues with race engines, Hi-Com pistons, Skimmed heads, minimum Squish not only can give rise to clearance issues with the plug but also detonation/pre ignition due to plug electrode temperature. Hence the use of Surface discharge plugs.
My 955 uses the Q-A55V surface discharge plugs and the 748RS used a lot of the NGK R2430-10 plugs current price £53 each
