| I remember visiting the Ducati factory in 1983 (!) when they were still building the bevel valve twins. To check the oil flow, they bolted little transparent covers in place of the triangular covers at the tops of the cam drive shafts, and connected the engine via a chain to a big electric motor. Then they spun it up, and Luigi peered in through the transparent caps and checked the oil was circulating....
It cracked me up.
And when the bikes came off the end of the line, the final carb adjustment was done by Luigi's brother, Mario, who used the special tools of one (1) screwdriver and two (2) hands, held over the ends of the silencers to gauge the back pressure, before he gave the adjuster and mixture screws their final twiddle. |
