What the real problem was, the Ducati 04 machine was only equally as good as the 03. However the 04 RC211V and the 04 YamahaM1 was a good 0.7-1.0 seconds better than last year.

Spot on - the duke isn't a bad bike it's just not moved on as much as the rest. Something like the top ten in qualifying are beating last years pole positions. Xaus was a second a lap faster in the race at Catalunya this year than Capirossi was last year when he won !
