I take the blueing off the metal plates with a fine 3m flap wheel. I clean the friction plates with clutch cleaner. If you have an enlcosed clutch cover consider removing the rubber gasket and putting 2 washers, per bolt, between the cover and engine case to allow all the crap to escape. Stops the graunching.
