It's a good job you don't have high lift cams otherwise it could've dropped through
I'm really surprised that it just sat there and didn't rattle like crazy or do any serious damage. At the very least it must've seriously messed up the power of the cylinder it was sat in...probably why you thought the 996 wasn't much faster than your 900ss.
