| Well, as a short term measure I would put something like nail varnish on it (the clear overcoat) until you got it sorted out properly. Some of the Essex boys do cross-dressing (Antonye, Desmondo, Dickieducati ...) so you could borrow some nail varnish from them if you don't have any handy.
But you could put some chain lube or anything, just to give it a coating until you get it painted.
