Not sure what size the piston diameter is in a SS mastercylinder, the 748/916/996 use a 16mm piston in theirs. It should be stamped on the mastercylinder somewhere, usually on top by the lever pivot pin.
If yours is less than 16mm then yes a change would give a improvement and if you go to the later type you get a bleed nipple on the mastercylinder as well.
