Get good gloves too!!
They will get wet and they will get caught on edges etc when carrying board, so reinforced fingers and waterproof is a good plan. If you are a complete newbie you might want to consider one's with a wrist gaurd in, or big enough for you to wear wrist gaurds underneath.
