I'm sure that the correct way to fit it is to remove the assembly off the bike at the bracket, so that the rear brake lever is free to move further round.

This takes the tension off the spring when fitting, so it's easier to fit.

Once it's in place you can then rotate the brake lever round and align the plunger into the master cylinder (again I think having this loose helps to get the plunger in) and then tighten everything up.

Once the assembly is done, refit it back onto the bike with the two bolts through the bracket into the engine.
