So is there any difference in the early frames between the basic and top of range bikes?

As far as I know its only the 748E (Economy) that didn't have the adjustable headstock, otherwise a early BP is the same as the SP or SPS and my 748S, the 748R was different with the dropped tube frame brace to allow a bigger airbox and also came with 12mm engine mounts as opposed to the 10mm mounts on the other 748s

kev, the sps does have a diff frame from the BP/SP,in that it uses the lighter 25CrMo4 material which wasnt used on earlier 748's, but was also used on the 916sps.

the 748sps and 916sps have more in common than you may think...

Robin is SPS using bigger diameter and thinner wall frame rails like my 748RS frame, soon found that out when I tried fitting my 916 crash bungs to it.

748dukes are great bikes. I have one but when the leathers come on it's usually either the 999 or 916 that comes out of the garage. The poor girl has only done 340 miles this year..
