HELP! My telly\'s broke...

Do any of you have any electronics knowledge? I bought a 'Manhattan' LCD flat screen portable from John Lewis about 2 years ago. It had a 3 year warranty, but muggins here has lost all the receipts and warranty details

I know what's wrong with it because it's got one of those inline power supplies that is supposed to provide 12 volts to the gubbins and a quick check with a multimeter shows no 12V. So I just need another power supply.

Trouble is, the PSU is a hefty one. It's rated at 5 amps and all the stuff I can find at Maplin and the usual outlets is nowhere near that rating. The plug is also fairly hefty, standard sort of thing but twice the diameter. Any ideas of where I can get one of these? short of buying an arc welder and hooking the telly up to that.

It should all be fuse protected inside that PSU Jools - if you're getting the screwdrivers out anyway open her up and have a look.

In an emergency, try a car battery.

Didn't have a telly at all for about 3 years and didn't really miss it either. It's Ducati's fault. My return to the TV fold co-incided with the entrance of the Desmosedici in MotoGP.

Ta for the fuse theory, I'll have a look, although the PSU case looks like it's completely sealed (no screws and welded all the way round)

Suprised Maplin don't do a 5A 12 volt powersupply, could try using the 12V part off a Computer PSU.
Also check Ebay, things like Toshiba robots used quite high current 12V supplies to control their robots, a lot of our equipment at work has 5A plus DC power supplies, there should be some out there, either that or get the bits to build one, full wave rectified and regulated

I'd want to check the output ranges before putting a PC PSU in though Skids. It should be similar but if it goes too far out it could cause issues. I'll stop telling you to suck eggs now ..

I reckon that would do the trick. It might look a bit dodgy if it doesn't fit in the same place as the original PSU and yo umay need to strip the connector off the PSU output and wire it in yourself but I'd bet me lefty that it would work.

G'warn!
