Advice please - Buying a new \'puter

It's that time so I was wondering what the experts think? I don't play games or do any really heavy video editing etc. It'll just be a general work horse really.

I was looking at a P4 3.2gHz system, custom build (Good expandable chassis) with 1Gb mem, 250G hard disk, (I already have a 250Gb and 80Gb external) dual layer DVD, XP pro and office, plenty of Firewire and USB 2 ports, a new (High speed) wireless hub/dsl modem, a 2 port KVM switch to share the periperals with my existing (Company) home office set up.

I'll be using the hub to share the DSL connection between 3, PC's and network to my existing laptop so it can share files and mass storage.

Anything else I should be considering?

Who are good to baseline prices against? DABS??

Also; I was just made aware of the MS Office clone. Seems like a deal at £50 for a licenced copy. Anyone had any experience? Supposed to produce fully compatible docs?!?!

TIA, Rob

JPM uses Aria and Scan for the odd bits and bobs as well.

Lily,

'scuse my ignorance, but what are they? Not the sorts of words that deliver a meaningful response from Google.

Oh yes, Norton 2005, Nero etc, are included in the bundle as well as all the original drivers and official S/W discs and manuals.

I use open office at home and find it pretty versatile, and free too.

I have never had a problem exchanging documents between work (MS Office) and home.
