That's the problem with this country, we're too busy trying not to upset the minority, except the minority aren't quite the minority these days. Funny how such a small Island with the biggest history around the world has to feel ashamed of flying the flag. Maybe we should bend over and let the rest of the world bleed us dry! Oh no we're already doing that, ah sod then lets watch football while the government let peedo's and murders roam the streets without a BRITISH PASSPORT!!!!!!!!

Steady on old chap, or the Message Board Nazis will be along shortly to censor your offensive viewpoint!

I'd imagine that exactly the same thing is happening in each of the countries that are playing in this years world cup. What's wrong with a little pride in your country. Personally I think it's great, and i'm from Northern Ireland, so I've no reason to support england, I think it adds to a general carnival atmosphere.

No that's not happening in all countries at all. There is not a single flag on a French car in France. The first one to do that would immediatly seen as belonging to the "Front National" (French equivalent to the BNP I think), and that's such a shame we can't use our national flag as you do.

I really don't mind seeing all those cars with the St George cross. And I do understand people who do that. Maybe I would even do it if I was English, who knows.

Your country welcomes so many foreigners (France as well but I'm not sure "welcome" would be the exact word) that I can understand the English people wanting to show that they are English in a country they're no longer the only one to live in.

That was the nice part.

And now the not so nice part.

Football remains football to me, it would be known if a brain was needed to play or watch a game of football

PS: I don't know who wrote it but in France also, we think we have the biggest history in the world. And I'm sure they do so in the States

Not being English I wouldn't know about who claims what flag as their symbol. But then, that sort of thing has happened through out history (think swastika). I'm sure most, if not all of the people flying the St. George flag do so out of a sense of national pride, and to support the football team, so they shouldn't have to constantly apologise for feeling a sense of pride in their country/team. Why anyone would take offense is beyond me. It is the flag of England after all.

I agree we should be flying our flag - I have one in my porch for all to see. Its the distraction/safety issues with the ones on cars that bothers me - wouldn't want one wrapped around my visor........

You have the South African flag flying outside your house Karen - are they playing in the WC?

The point I was trying to make was that, with all this national pride on show, they mostly drive around in foreign cars

Agree it's a shame. But I gotta contradict you:
I can see France from where I live and drive there quite frequently, and I see loads of houses with the French flag on all year round. Also see plenty of cars with the French flag on them.

Mind you, there are loads of them Frenchies wishing they were Swiss as they also display the Swiss flag next to their French flag!! Even funnier though, is the Swissies don't show any French flags - they don't want to be French! So amusing.....

Ade.

So we don't know the same France. I must have seen French flags displayed by people something like 3 or 4 times in my life. I see the Union-Jack or the St George cross in gardens almost every day...

No way they wish they were swiss They may want to work in Swizterland to earn as much money as they do in Switzerland. They may also want to live in Switzerland because it's a beautiful and calm place but that's it. But being SWISS? You crazy? Swiss people are not very well seen in France, mainly because of the role they played during WW2 I guess...

There are 2 Switzerland, the German one and the French one. People living in the German one are the idiots (*)
