999 tank removal

Dear DSC ... ANY particular advice or procedure??? tool?? best way to avoid any mess?

..as everytime I put my hands on the 999 I discover something weird (these Italian engineers!!)
- for example - have you tried to plug a power commander to a 999 if mother nature equipped you with normal man's hands and not tiny ones..

I plugged and unplugged mine with tank in situ, and I don't have small hands!

It did hurt a bit though, and took away a couple of layers of skin, but it can be done!

Thanks Khu, eventually I did manage the installtion of the PCIII as well.. and the layers if skin too!!

I want to remove the tank to access the airbox/filter house... just wondering if anything here is pretty normal or I am going to find some surprise!!

You can get the filters out without removing the tank, but the actual job of taking the tank off is pretty simple.

Once you've got the seat unit out of the way, its only the fuel line quick connects to undo, and unplug the fuel pump, I think thats all there is to it.

Changing the filters is just a case of taking the 3 screws each side out from the air tubes.........accessing the air box, well...............that really needs to be done with the airbox off of the bike ie undoing the clamps on the inlet tubes just prior to the cyl head.
To get it off the bike you need to undo the ign switch mount bolts.....which is easier said than done!

Fabio, there is no need to open up the airbox to fit your new filters which is a good thing because getting the airbox apart while it is on the bike is a real awkward and time consuming job as Keith says that bit is best done by removing the whole airbox.

when I did mine, I had to undo the front faring as the tubes would not clear the frame, have I mist something,

I think were assuming that he would already have the fairing sides and nose off!
