Random fact of the day
In the spirit of injecting a bit of fun into the forum, I thought I would start a "Random fact of the day".

This will make us a better informed group of people who will appear more interesting and knowledgeable to the outside world. Eventually our combined information base will become so large and so powerful that we will become a threat to small nations and world leaders will tremble before our might....MWAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!!! ahem, let's just forget that last bit for now.....

Here are the rules;
1) Needs to be interesting - your fact may be technically true but does it pass the "well I never!" test (ie if you mentioned this at work would the overall response be "well I never!")
2) Only one fact of the day. Additional posts may be made to debate the fact in question or to add extra commentary. To many facts in one day leads to information overload (fact!) and inability to process other actions (aka work). Based upon the time of this post, the next fact is allowed at 1:05 tomorrow.

Here is today's random fact:
The Scoville Scale is a measure of how "hot" a chilli pepper is. Although a scientific method is now used, the original method was to dilute the pepper until it wasn't hot anymore.

Jalapenos rate between 2,500 to 10,000 on the scale. The hottest pepper on record is a "Red Savina" Habanero which tested at over 577,000 units.

Pure capsaicin (the chemical that gives a pepper its hotness) runs to 15-16 million units.

A bloke - Wilbur Scoville. He developed his test in 1912.

This has nothing to do with my job by the way. I have a stockmarket-related one ready for tomorrow unless someone pips me to the post.

F M that's interesting!
I can't wait 'til tomorrow.

In the event of two people posting a new fact at 13:05 tomorrow - who is deemed the owner of the "Fact of the Day"?
Will it be open to a general vote based on the "well I never" quotient?
Willthe loser be subject to a penalty so that he/she must refrain from attempting to post an interesting fact for a penalty period of , say, one week?

Now why does there have to be some sort of punishment element to this?, with all the other abuse going on elsewhere on the site, it's getting more like a fetish scene everyday.

no punishment, no retraction of post, no retribution whatsoever.

If two people post in quick succession then my belief in the positive human spirit will assert that it was an accident.

If someone willfully breaks the "one post per day" rule then I will be sad but will move on with my life....
