Helmet Dilemma.

On Monday, I bought a new Shark RSI helmet, which on Wednesday, the top vent came off.

I took it back yesterday (Thursday) morning, and the shop wouldnt give me an exchange or refund, just put me through to the Shark rep (on the phone) who said he wouldnt replace it either, but would send me a new vent kit and a token of their apology in the form of some t-shirts and keyrings etc.

A courier brought me a big box today with a new vent kit to fit...

and some crappy baseball hat that doesnt fit (too small).

<sarcasm>Thanks, Shark!</sarcasm>

I fitted the vent kit, but it sits wonky once clipped in and really i dont hold much hope for its longevity.

I feel kinda fobbed off. Should I? At £190 it wasnt a cheapo lid - which btw: fits great! lol

Should i bitch to the shop/Shark some more on tomorrow/monday about it?

Care to offer any advice?

Thanks

Cy

Well, when I've bought lids it's always been made clear that they're non-refundable, after all, you wouldn't want to buy a lid when someone elses sweaty bonce had been in it for a couple of days would you? So the dealer is stuck with something they can't sell.

Having said that you would expect any type of manufacturer to stand by their product although to be fair they have provided you with a new vent kit even if their attitude hasn't been very helpful and their token apology has been a cynical "chuck one of them in the box".

The thing that would worry me is that the new vent kit is wonky, if you've fitted it right it might mean that the shell is faulty? Hence the early demise of the original? Lids that have bits fall off them give me the eebie jeebies anyway, it always makes me think "well if they can't screw this bit on properly how much faith should I put in the lid saving my head". Might be worth a call to trading standards questioning the 'fitness for purpose'?

When you bought the helmet you made a contract with the retailer, not the manufacturer. The retailer is obliged to sort it out, either by repair or replacement. If the goods are not fit for purpose you are entitled to an exchange. Go back to the dealer and create hell. Goods should be fit for purpose and of acceptable quality which this obviously was not.

Tell them that you will stand outside their store with a sandwhich board and megaphone telling all how they treat their customers unless you get the service you demand.

I had a minor problem with a trim piece on a ROOF helmet once, and even though i'd had it for a month they replaced it no questions asked!I think it's down to how 'bothered' the dealer is TBH.

you have your statutory rights lid or not
take it back
leave it there
demand a refund by letter and in person and set out in writing everything that has happened including dates and what was said
if that doesnt work.............
sue them in the small claims court!
also inform trading standards anyway

If you paid for the lid with a credit card then the credit card company may take up your complaint if the goods are faulty and not fit for purpose.

I've got a Shark RSR Foggy rep and dropped it a while ago smashing the top vent, I sent it to the importers, Pheonix distribution who replaced all damaged parts gave it the once over and sent it back within three days, top service I thought.
