Cool headstock bearing help

can anyone tell me are there any other models that use the same headstock
bearings as my 94 600 ss as the prices i am being quoted are ridiculous

600SS shares the same bearings as
750SS, 750SSie , 900SS, 900SSie
M600, Early M750 and Early M900

about £30 a set, and yes I have fitted 600SS Yokes into a M600 Frame

I'm trying to find out some spec's for the bearings - I simply took my old ones to a bearing stockist and they replaced them with identical SKF taper rollers for £12 each!

Here are some good tips I've found:

"remove fairing, get the front end supported(I have an engine stand), remove guard, wheel, forks etc. Ashamed to say I used a mallet and substantial screwdriver to loosen C-ring but managed not to mark it. You might want to mark where your forks are in the yokes before dropping them out, and take a note of the order that locking nut, washers etc come out in.
Haynes is okay as a guide for this though from memory the pics aren't particularly instructive."

"Just removed the bearings off my T8 the bottom inner race I removed with a dremel with the little cutting disc attatchment cut through as far as possible without touching the yoke.
then with a small sharp chisel place in the groove and tap with one hard blow this splits the shell and it then pulls free.
make sure you have the yoke on flat but shock absorbing surface I used a bit of hardboard on the metal work bench.

"Outers are obviously are the problem in the head stock.

Inners in the steering stem were the other one I remember! and the worst one for me - wish I'd of know about the Dremmel trick as I say a mate at work used an Oxy torch and burnt my lower one off - the heat was a bit drastic to say the least.

I simply used a long tube to remove the outers - not much of a lip to work with in the frame - I recall it took a long time being patient and working around the bearing evenly.

Assembly really was easy - outers in the freezer overnight and then hairdrier in the frame tube, no problem there.

Inner lower bearing needed a tube to press it right the way down the stem - all pretty straight forward really.

I would not bother trying to ABSOLUTELY seat them either as riding the bike and bedding the bearings in finally seemed to entail a few bearing adjustment sessions - but was fine in the end.

Be methodical - use a bearing specialist (not a bike retailer) and I'm sure you will be fine."

We-Moto do an All Balls bearing kit for around £30
