Crash Protectors / Bungs For SS DD Bike

Sorry if this has been asked a hundred times already, but I can't find the answer anywhere.

As I can't find anyone who makes these for the carb SS model, I rang R&G to order the pre 2000 Monster frame crash bungs for my SS DD bike, but they tell me that the Monster ones definitely do not fit the SS. I can't understand why, I thought the only difference was that the Monster has one long engine mount bolt instead of two on the SS. I'd have thought it was a simple fit?

Can anyone tell me the solution please?

Also if anyone has protectors that fit the standard SS bars, i'd be interested to know where these can be sourced too.

Thank you.

I think a company in the lincs area called SES make them. I got mine through Nog.

I bet you can use the later Monster ones with just a couple of Mods.

Throw away the long bar and replace with two long ISO M10 X 1.5mm Bolts
Drill out the threads in one or both of the crash bungs so that it removes the 10mm thread and allows the M10 bolts to pass through it and screw into the engine

Even with the Engine mount on my S2R being 12mm I know I could make them fit my DD bike but may have to turn a mm or two off the boss that locates in the frame recess, but this shouldn't apply to ones designed for a 1999 to 2001 Monster 600 frame

For my Class B bike I just made my own and if memory serves I'm pretty sure the ones from my TL1000S would have fitted.

Thanks fella's. I'll try to get some early Monster bungs so that they fit into the recess and buy separate bolts. Sounds simple enough. Guess I could also fit a wider bung by putting some dense rubber across the frame lug to spread the load? I have some old cush drive rubbers encased in a large metal washer that would be ideal - might even help avoid possible frame damage from a solid fitting bung? There's an idea?!

I have some DIY aluminium ones (and bolts) from Toni's monster that you can have if you want.

That would be great if you really don't mind me having them, then i'd be very grateful. I'll send you a PM.
