Suspension help needed

My DD bike still has full road suspension on it and im wanting to start getting it set up for racing. Ive been told a linear rear shock spring will be a good place to start but i dont know how big my rear spring is. I cant take it out because i dont have the room to do it. Anyone know how big a standard 600ss rear shock spring will be? and if it makes any difference if the spring is bigger, smaller, thinner or thicker. Someone must know something about suspension. Thanks in advance.

I think better brakes, to stop you running on at Mallory hairpin.
