Assen Moto GP

Thinking of taking a trundle down to the Moto GP at Assen this year, any advice on somewhere nice but not expensive to stay near the track, routes down to Assen and overall cost of the trip would be appreciated

Darren

JPM can probably give you a full breakdown as he has done it a few times now, both flying and by bike.

Darren,

As lily has said I've done this a few times now, twice on a bike and one by plane, train and automobile...

If you're planning on riding, obviously ferry across, no idea where you are, so that might determine where you depart from, and arrive. Usual crossings are overnight, so get a room on the ferry...

I've arrived at 2 different ports, one was rotterdam, and I can't remember the other, but it was way closer to Assen, would have to check ferry routes.

Assen is pretty far up as far as Holland goes, so from Rotterdam it's a good 4+ hours ride, all straight roads, whereas the other route was only about 2 hours and you go over a vast dyke.

I've stayed in Groningen every time I have been, a large city which is similar to Chester etc if you have ever been there, the circuit is about 20 mins from Groningen and getting in and out is far easier than any circuit in the UK.

Bikes seem pretty safe in Groningen to leave overnight, although that doesn't mean leave them unlocked etc. Amsterdam on the other hand isn't so good, first time we went mate had his 916sps nicked over night, and they left every other bike untouched.

The only problem may be the weather, there's a large grandstand on the start/finish straight which offers good protection, and you get to see the dices through the last chicane. Although I prefer the end of the start/finish straight as you can see far more of the track from there.

What sort of cost is traveling and place to stay come to for a long weekend at Assen?

Have looked at this website http://www.moto-gp.info/ anybody used them before.
