Baylis in shop window

Troy finished the 1st qualifying session at Valencia in 4th place two places and two tenths of a second ahead of team mate Caparossi.
1st was Sete, 2nd Tamada with Rossi 3rd, Biaggi split the two works Ducatis.

Let ..

.. the good times roll :D

Do the first sessions ever mean anything? If the weather is consistent, the only thing that matters is the last 5 minutes of final qualifying and even then, they still have to race. Early qualifying is one thing, doing it lap after lap on race day is another. My bet is he'll be nowhere. (shame cause he's a top bloke).

I dont know so much. I hope he goes out on a high . It maybe too much too late but may show what he was lacking in motivation.

Short term memory WJB
Did Rossi Not go faster in the 1st qualifying session at the last GP at Philip Island than he did in the final qualifying and if he hadn't have done maybe he would have started futher back on the grid with his harder compound rear tyre which in turn could have changed the outcome of the race.

It would be interesting although unlikely if Baylis got Ducati their best finish of the year.

dickieducati 30-Oct-2004 01:18

got to face facts i'm afraid; great bloke troy is, but as far as ducati motogp team goes he could'nt mut the custard. if you were team boss would you keep him?

skidlids 30-Oct-2004 01:28

Sadly Troy doesn't appear that suited to this years bike, his full on riding style lacks the finess that Caparosi has to keep this years bike balanced on the knife edge.
Be interesting to see who replaces him, will it be a proven GP rider who has a recent wining history and if so WHO ? or will it be somebody that appeals to a bigger market share with regards to bike sales.

nothing sells bikes better than WINING

Bayliss' sixth fastest in final qualifying just a quarter of a second off pole and just a tenth behind Rossi isn't too shabby though is it.

New Ohlins forks apparently made the front end feel more to his liking and lets him ride with more attack. One hot lap in qualifying ain't the same as a whole race but I hope he goes well and leaves Ducati with his head held high.
