Replica 888 SPx Single Seat Frames

All,

I have been trying to source a genuine steel or ally single seat frame for some time. They are making serious money when they pop up on fleabay. Pretty much given up now, but I do have an ace fabricator who will copy me one or many – depending on demand. I am sure you can see what I am building up to. Would anyone be willing to loan me a seat frame to use as the pattern, suitable compensation to be agreed, LOL.

After that, I (we) have a decision to make. The accuracy of the copy will dictate the price, and this fabricator can do metal magic, a 100% accurate job is possible. Is there any demand for the most accurate copy or would something close, and considerably cheaper be the way to go?

Please let me know what you think.

Regards,

Rob

I personally would be interested,pending on ;

Cost,Material and Quality

I presume the cost would be relative to the demand, ie the more he makes, the cheaper they become.
I would imagine, imho, that most would want an alloy one to convert to a mono seat more easily,as me and Nat know that can be a :pig: of a job.
The steel ones on fleabay don`t fetch nowhere near as much as the mono ones do.

Also is there more than one type of subframe,early/late?
I think Redsps has come across this problem with his 851:puzzled:

Getting back to cost, how much is an original alloy frame for a 888 Nat,and are they still avaliable?

The new fabricated ones must be cheaper than the originals, if the originals are still avaliable,or on par if not, again imho.

cheers

Graham,

I am talking SP, single seats here, not Stradas.

Originals SP2 and 3 mono frames do come up from time to time and it's. I sold one to RedSPS for £300 ish.

888's frames, on the other hand, are like chicken lips. A steel one was about £460 new and the ally was about £850. Neither can be had from the factory now. A steel one has just gone on Ebay for over £650. I can't remember the last ally one I saw on ebay though.

The costs are going to be dependant on the accuracy of the copy. If you need to make tools to do all the fancy brackets it multiplies the costs. As soon as I get someting to copy, I'll post again.

Showing my ignorance there,I thought the stradas were steel and the sp`s were alloy.
how many different subframes are there for the 851/888 range?

Both Strada's 851 and 888 are steel, I think all the SP's all came with an ally mono seat frame and the USA (SP0) had a mono seat frame in steel.

Pre 92 frame picture below, this is the one I have, exhaust bracket further forward and tube is flat then turns up, bolt down tank support and cross brace level with frame rails. This will fit any 8** frame, but does not have the cross brace for seat support on the later 888 frame, or pin brackets for the prop up fuel tank featured on 92+ bikes. 888 frame in next reply.

Post 92 frame pictured below. This is off an SPO and is steel. It has the loops for pivot tank, exhaust brackets are further back, and the cross brace is raised and flat to allow for seat unit to be bolted down behind bump stop. I need one of these!!!

I thinkI have secured the Post 92 frame as a pattern. I'll let you know once I have it in my hands and have priced copies.

It would seem the factory are having a clearout on 888 era parts. If someone can give me a relevant part number for the subframe I can do a search..no promises but worth a try ??

I am trying to procure a mixture of 888 bits from the factory(decals, silencers, instrumentation, tool bags etc)..ill let you know how I get on..
