chip removal ??

Sorry if this is old stuff but is there some sort of tool that makes removing the chip from its housing and replacing it easier and can you get replacement stickers to go back over ?

Dibble 10-Dec-2003 18:11

Nigel,

I have the tool, if you want to borro wit just u2u or email me yer address and I'll send it down to you...

Stickers are available from yer dealer .....

There are specialist tools for this, but.......

...all you really need is a small screwdriver (or snipe-nosed pliers), patience and care!!

Don't forget about the ESD (electro-static discharge) issues and make sure you're earthed before you dive in there.

Maplin will sell you a chip puller for not very much money. A screwdriver can be used but you do risk bending the pins. they can be straightened though but if you bend one badly enough and then snap it off its new chip time. Carpet tape makes a good subsitute for the correct sticker.

Dont forget that you will need to set up the injection to get the best out of the new chip. Its not just as simple as swapping them over.

If your in the midlands give Neil at Cornerspeed a bell. I think he does injection set ups for £35 or so. He did my ST4 a while back and its running better than ever. Best £35 i've ever spent.

Nigel,
if you need a chip puller you can borrow mine, I only live just outside of worthing. Let me know and I can either drop it off or you can collect it from me.

the shop that fitted my tyres (sussex rolling road) have a dyno and have offered to dyno my bike fit the pipes and then dyno it again but said they could only adjust anything if i fitted a power commander and they download a map for my particular pipes and bike,
i've been working all the hours i can to pay for the pipes and can't stretch to a power commander

Nigel,

I have the below. It's really just a glorified 'push-bike' spoke with the end ground down to a 'blade' type configuration. Means you can get the right type of perpendicular leverage on the chip that you can't with a screwdriver.

Simple to make I guess although I got mine (as you can see :D) from Snap-on !!!!! ............make that my dealer supplied it to me with my new 748R on the card as you see here.

Guido
