748R Front Discs different?

Wonder if you could shet some light on this for me.

I bought a set of Brembo front discs from e-Bay last year to use on my 998S race bike. They were advertised as "wider offset" type, "off a 2001/2002 748R."

What puzzles me is that the offsets are indeed wider, making them unusable on my 998S, but after having a large number of 9*6/9*8x bikes, I'd always thought running gear was identical on all models in terms of size.

I've checked the 2002 Ducati parts catalogues and these do indeed show different part numbers for front discs between the two models, but I'm aware that these do sometimes change for other reasons when the parts are actually identical.

Could anyone shed any light as to whether these discs are truly from a 748R, or are they something else masquerading?

Is it the wheel size, the yoke width or the caliper mounting points?

It's only the discs off the MY01 & 02 748R that had the bigger offset. Reason being they ran Ohlins forks.

They're also the same as 996R and 998R.

they ran them with more offset on what is basically the race versions to improve cooling by sitting them out in the air. Any chance you could measure the offset so I can add the info to my ever growing data base.

Seem to remember they have 10mm offset.

you can still use them. You just need to mount a spacer between the caliper and fork leg.
Did it with a 996/ohlins/RS disc setup.

I'm confused, how can you move the calipers further away from the wheel by using spacers? Surely putting a spacer between the caliper and the mounting point on the fork leg will push the caliper closer to the wheel?

You need to machine the calliper mount..

Even the ohlins forkbottoms was machined to fit the 748R..

we used 5mm spacers, that much I know.
