1000SS fuel light
 

My 1000ss has developed a problem where the fuel light comes on when ever it feels like it, even when the tank is full.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Nope!
My 999's fuel light does the same,even sometimes when you have just filled up.
Is the bike still under warranty?

Bike is still under warranty. It is just such a hassle if it is a minor fix.
You know the senario
Take bike to dealer, they have a look, and book it in
Take bike back to dealer.... usually got wrong parts
Take bike back again to dealer... they claim to fix but problem still there.
And so on... until you get bored and live with the problem

However, i am being pesimistic. The above is from past experience with a yamaha dealer that luckily is no longer in business.
The trouble with the Ducati dealer is that i need to book a day off work to get there.

First thing to try is......

If you remove the seat, and lift up the tank, you will see a plug with 4 wires on, this is the level indicator and fuel pump wires, just un-clip the connector, spray with some of that electrical connector stuff, if ya have some (or poss wd40, think that works the same).

If that dont cure it, it may be the actual sender, so you should contact dealer.

I Sprayed on lots of WD40 onto connectors prior to a long ride to Tenby this weekend.

Gosh, the bike does go well in those welsh hills!

Fuel light still plays up... seems to be linked in with the quantity of fuel in the tank
When full.... light says empty
When Half full... light says empty most of the time
When almost empty... light says full!
When actually empty............light agrees, but i can see me having a long push at some point.

One thing i must say tho is that the 1000ss goes a long way on one tank.... well over 150miles... and plenty still to go!

Hey guys.
Mine has had the same problem since I bought it - now done 2,500 miles and also developed an annoying habit of stopping mid-ride. Sometimes it'll re-start, sometimes it takes a short siesta before it'll even murmer.
Currently back with the boys at Ducati Coventry - hope they fix it, esp. the fuel light which is very annoying.
If you discover what the prob is let me know - I'll do likewise.

Made some progress with this problem today.

I have always thought the headlight was a bit dim, so i bought a 50% brighter bulb. A bit of a bugger to fit it as the H4 bulb was a tight fit in the reflector.

Anyway, after much tugging, pushing and general fiddling around behind the dash, i got the bulb seated properly and got it all back together, and took it out for a spin.

Not only have i got a better headlamp, but the fuel light is now working as it should again.

My guess is that there is a loose connector behind the dash area somewhere.

That is the second loose connection i have came across now. The first was the front brake light wires, where they have used a pair of bullet connectors under the headlamp. These were in place but a rattly fit.

I think i may have to go through the connectors with a fine tooth comb and WD40 to ensure they are all seated properly. Is this normal on a Ducati? sounds reminisant of old Triumphs.

Yeah,its normal on modern Dukes.
Both of my front indicators took turns in not working,it was a loose connection.The wires from the front brake light switch are likely candidates too.Always seems to be the bullet type connectors.
