Gibbontwat to Ducati

What a disaster, Ducati have finally announced that they ARE signing the Gibbon****.

Of all the riders out there deserving of a ride they pick one that has so obviously lost the plot it's embarrassing! He has been utterly out physched by Rossi since Qatar last year, and now he will be able to blame the machinery, something he couldn't do while Melandri got on and did the business.

Can't help thinking Ducati have boobed big time here.

Stealth 06-Nov-2005 20:31

agreed - should have gone for Marco M.

hawk 06-Nov-2005 21:28

HERE HERE
i also think that ducati have messed up and should ave kept checa!!!!!! or at least groom a up and coming young rider.

giveupnow had his chance in 04 to clinch a championship but managed to balls that up !!!!!!!

05 was dismal

06 well lets just hope that he doesn't give ducati the reputation he's getting

still

kick all off our uk arse's all day long
:lol::lol::lol:

bolds 06-Nov-2005 21:34

Still think he will be the best of who was available
Checa goes ok when he is looking for a ride but he's not a winner
Sweaty may be ok if they get him to a good shrink to sort his head out:sing:

Redruth 06-Nov-2005 21:56

Do you think these names up all by yourselves or are they in the papers?

:P

I don't like him much either, I have to say. He's not much of a sportsman, no matter how good a rider he may or may not be. And if he starts ****ging off Ducati when he fails to make a success of the season, I shall REALLY go off him.

I think you're right Yeti. What are they playing at ???? :sniff::sniff:

I agree not sure he`s the man for ducati...personally i dont think after this season and how easy rossi has been able to play mind games with him that he has a championship left in him . Its as if he panics once he gets out front and rossi just follows.

mind you he would still kick my arse tho..

bolds 06-Nov-2005 22:25

Might be fun to see what we are saying this time next year about it?

He might not be able to win a championship-but else could on a Ducati :puzzled:

sparkin 06-Nov-2005 22:27

Here`s the press release to save people hunting for it,personally think they should have kept Chubby on as he was starting to get some where.
Timt will tell,

SETE GIBERNAU JOINS THE DUCATI MOTOGP TEAM

The Ducati MotoGP Team has reached agreement with Sete Gibernau to contest the 2006 MotoGP World Championship. The Spanish rider will join Loris Capirossi, who renewed his contract with the squad before September's Japanese GP.

"I'm delighted to welcome Sete," said Federico Minoli, president of Ducati Motor Holding. "We think Sete is one of the strongest guys in MotoGP. He's a talented, gritty and courageous rider. Sete has had a difficult season this year but he has shown throughout that he never gives up, in the best Ducati spirit. For this reason we're very proud to have him in our 2006 line-up alongside Loris. They are both very strong riders and we'll do everything we can to give them what they need to obtain the best possible results."

Gibernau replaces Carlos Checa, who completed his time with the Ducati MotoGP Team in today's Valencia GP.

"It's always difficult to welcome someone while saying goodbye to someone else," continued Minoli. "I want to sincerely thank Carlos for the commitment and professionalism he's shown us. For sure he's a great rider and also a nice guy; working with him has been a great pleasure."

Gibernau is optimistic about his future, trusting in the Ducati/Bridgestone partnership that has already given great joy to Ducati fans with some amazing results, including Capirossi's fantastic victories at the recent Japanese and Malaysian GPs.

"After achieving some great results and much satisfaction during the last few years, and after a season at the highest level but with some difficulties, I decided to make a change in my career," said Gibernau. "First of all I want to thank the people who helped me achieve so many good results. But now it's time to find some new motivation. The professionalism and enthusiasm I've found at Ducati are what made me decide to join forces with the factory. I face this new challenge with real determination, convinced that together we can achieve great success. In recent years Ducati has shown that it has big ambitions and huge potential. I trust that, with my experience, I can make a real contribution to turn our shared dreams into reality."

Never was there a time when the saying "Make or Break" is more fitting......

Think he has talent....the real racers metal brain etc...? I'm not sure about after this year. Guess we'll see during the first tests at Jerez in the New Year. Although the first race will be a more telling test for him.

andyb 07-Nov-2005 09:12

Im sure every one commented like this last year with "careless chuka"!:D

baylissboy 07-Nov-2005 09:31

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

What are Ducati thinking about????

Rossi's already got Giveupnow beaten, mentally & on the bike,at least he'll have some new excuses!!
I think his first one is "red doesn't suit my riding style!!":pig:

AK 07-Nov-2005 09:36

I wonder what this could do to potential sales figures for Ducati sportsbikes next season.
Will surely loose the 'must haves' that will buy the latest model based on their favourite race god............

Rob B 07-Nov-2005 09:47

Hmmm... I've never liked Sete and his performance this year has seen more unforced errors than ever, BUT, his season has some interesting stats.

He's the best qualifier, won the BMW by over 2 secs. He's led more race laps than anyone else, but critically, not the last yard of those important last laps......................

I'll get my coat.

skidlids 07-Nov-2005 09:56

I wonder what Sete's developement skills are like, when he was on a non factory bike in 2004 he got it to a level that was better than the works Honda's and was a challenge to Rossi. This year his factory bike was also very fast, mainly in quallifying but was also up the front of a few races before he had a rush of blood to the head.
Maybe over the winter testing he will help take the bikes developement forward especially in partnership with Bridgestone.
Agreed Ducati need to pickup a young up and coming rider at some point but they also need to keep their development on pace with both Yamaha and Honda and ahead of Suzuki and Kawasaki and for this you need a rider that can push the bike to the limit which is something Sete can still do as he proved by picking up a BMW car this weekend.
Hopefully when next season gets under way Ducati will be in a position to push for a win from the very first race.
Time will tell !

Brogins 07-Nov-2005 14:33

..well we sack a Spanish for another Spanish..
back home...AREN'T HAPPY......

Good points Skids, lets just wait and see shall we.

Maybe the Gibbon will develop the bike to a level that will allow Cappirex to win more races? Cos lets face it, I can't see the Gibbon doing any winning, not after Vale mindfu*ked him!

skidlids 07-Nov-2005 15:06

Exactly John, Loris is still a winner but he needs to start the season on a par with the likes of Rossi and not playing catch-up all the time and if that is something that Sete can help them with then it will be a sound move.
Now lets get a proper Ducati satellite team sorted and get some young guns on them and groom them for a future in the works team

macey46 07-Nov-2005 15:59

Apparently the D'Antin bikes will be almost 06 spec with Bridgestone tyres. Would be great to see Ellison and Rolfo on them with decent factory support.

pedro 07-Nov-2005 16:43

im ok with this one, marco m is the best option but over the year sete will do better than carlos c. the ducati is faster than the honda so sete should be more of a threat to v.r. yes, sete has had a bad year but thats raceing. this time last year sete was hot stuff & was the only one who could run with v.r. good move i think.:)

m1keyp 10-Nov-2005 20:56

He's known as Sete the binner in our house.

Still his sponsors are guaranteed lots of Tv coverage........................

As they pick him out of the dust again:lol:

Good luck James Ellison

keefer 10-Nov-2005 21:04

i think it might just work
last season all the die hard baylis fans spat there dummies out over checa.
so well have to wait and see.
it was interesting listening to Jeremy mc Williams on eurosport, he was saying that sete just cant let anyone lead in front of him without running off the track.
its a fair wait till the start of next season and I hope he gets his demons out of his head.
im not in any way a sete fan. but I hope it works for Ducati.
so ill fly the flag

Funky Gibbon lapping faster than Capirossi on the Valencia first test day.
(admittedly Capirossi is recovering)
GO!GO!GO!GO!GO!GO! Sete

Yeh but, no but -

From Crash.net;

"Meanwhile Capirossi, whose fitness is slowly but constantly improving, completed 19 laps with the team's experimental engine-braking system.

The system was used at the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix before being handed to official test-rider Vittoriano Guareschi for further development throughout this year. As a result, Capirossi concentrated on providing feedback for future development rather than outright performance."

Just read this - hmmmm Gib :puzzled:

Should have gone for that little Marco Malandri I think.

deej 21-Nov-2005 20:51

well next season will be the first time ever that im wishing a duke to crash, ive met gibernau a few times and have found him to be one of the most arrogant and ignorant racers ive met, worse than max. melandri was just as ignorant.the sponsors will be happy that theyve got gibbertwet but i hope the bloke crashes out early in the season with a bad injury so ducati can get someone younger and hungrier onboard to see what the bike can really do. at leats loris should be able to get the season off with a flyer this year
