996 TB on a 916

Hi,
Does anybody know if I can put a 996 TB (with dual injectors per cylinder) on a 916 Bipo without changing loom and ECU?

I'm sure someone'll be along in just a moment that'll probably jump in and give you a straight answer, but I'd want to know more information beforehand...

Q. What year / specification of bikes are you talking about?

There are differences in (apparently) the same model 'names' depending on what year the bike was manufactured.

e.g. Not all '996' bikes are the same (obviously).

I'm guessing that you're talking about trying to take a 4-injector setup from an 'SPS' specification machine (not sure what you mean by 'TB') and install on a non-SPS (Biposto) specification 916, yes?

My next question would be... Why? What are you trying to achieve?

If you've got everything else all kitted out, dialed in, and fully sorted then I might say 'fill yer boots', but if you're after 'more power', then you might be barkin' up the wrong tree(?)

Sortin' your gearing will (most likely) give you the same 'seat of the pants' rush ('feels' good) and be more usable (e.g. stock gearing isn't optimal)

That's my 2p worth for the moment...

I'm bigboring a 97' 916 Bipo to 955 with SP heads and G cams.
So I'll need a more accurate injection.
The best solution is P8 with SPS TB (dual injectors per cylinder / sequentially command).
Problem : difficult to find and many parts to change (loom, flywheel, alternator cover...) and sometimes expensive...

Some 996 had dual injectors per cylinder TB with standard ECU. Even if this injection is less accurate than a P8 SPS one, it may be a solution.

You'd need the 1.6M B1 ecu, but it can't fire the injectors on the same cylinder sequentially likw the P8. I think it was SP or SPS that had this set up.
I'd be more concerned about the exhaust side.

OK, I was awared about non sequentially fire.
Of course P8 would be the best solution but...

Then, the bike is fitted with 1.6M but cannot talk about version (B1???).

The standard 1.6M cannot fire two injectors at all. For 955 even with G cams, twin injectors aren't necessary unless you are after race bike revs. Just get a good exhaust!

I've seen 1.6m A0 /B1,...
There are different version of this ECU?

Weber-Marelli IAW 1.6M ECU
One injector/cylinder: 748, 916 Biposto, 916 Senna, ST2

Weber-Marelli IAW 1.6M B1 ECU
Two injectors/cylinder: 996 Biposto, 996S

Note: The IAW 1.6M uses a crank timing sensor at the cam jackshaft whereas the 1.6M B1 ECU takes it's timing firing points from the crankshaft.

If you want to retain the standard ECU and Harness then you will need to stick with single injectors.
So the options would be to look at replacing the IW031 green injectors that flow 270cc/min at 3 bar with something like a IW058 or IW158 injectors that flow in the region of 380cc/min and dial it in on the power commander.
Alternatively the 748R shower injector setup would work with your ECU and harness but sorting an airbox may be an issue

Yes for the 748R, it may be a smart option.
The problem may not be the airbox (somebody can make one).
It needs to modify the frame: shower TB cannot be mounted on Bipo frame and I would need intake manifolds (and perhaps valve covers??)

And to finish, finding a chip !
