Oil I know this has been covered a lot but here we go again. Sorry! I am planning an oil change on my 996. I have a quantity of 10w/40. Is this the right oil to use. I must have bought it for this but it was a while ago. Thanks |
Please Colin, use 15W50 fully synthetic, such as Mobil 1 or Motul 300V. 10W40 is really too thin. I would use nothing else. Regards, James |
Thanks James. I must have got 10w40 from my Haynes manual. I just checked. |
As James said. 15/50. The last lot I got was only £24 off ebay. :) |

Thanks guys. Why do Haynes specify 10w40? I am reluctant to throw the oil that I have away. |

I assume it's because they allow for temperature variants, north pole to africa if you will. I used 10/40 for ages with no ill effects apart from I was forever topping the level up. It burnt oil like an old banger 15/50 cured it. |
