No tail lights but brake lights okay Hello, noticed i had no tail lamps or rear plate light tonight. brake lights work fine, all connectors seem okay. also bike misfired today quite badly, but only on open throttle, idle is fine. it cleared and was fine then did it again, feels like an electrical misfire, not fuel if you know what i mean. sorry not very technical. could the two things be related? bike has just been apart for a big service had co2's adjusted too. thanks |
it's 9.15pm, i'm in my pants in the garage trying to fix the damn thing - surely someone out there with an rough idea must be awake!?! |
Try the fuses, the rear lights may use there own fuse compared to the braklights |
Don't know about the lights... if the headlights are working ok then there must be a broken connection. That's a case of continuity testing. The misfire - what bike is it? The 996 breed suffers from poor fueling in the lower rev range, resulting in spluttering when opening the throttle, and again at around the 9k mark. This is a problem with the eprom map, and since it's mixture sensitive I'd imagine it's severity is easily weather dependant. To tune this out the only real cure i've heard of is a single injector setup with an UltiMap chip. |
fuse is fine, uses the same as the indicators and they are working. i think the misfire may be a breather on the fuel tank. it seems to be either drawing air or pressurising. can hear air escaping/being drawin in from filler when i switch bike off. anyone know where the breather is on a 748? |
Might be a shot in the dark but the misfire and the air your can hear escaping could be a split fuel hose inside your tank. If the tank has been empty the fuel lines dry out and crack. It happened to my 916 and misfired all over the place. Just a thought...? |
i'm pretty sure its the filler cap itself making the noise. it changes if i press the flap. i think i have two issues here. an electrical one and a fuel one. the fuel i'm pretty sure is the breather, just need to find it and clear it. the tail lamps and plate light i can't figure out. how can the brake lights and indicators all still work? horn is fine too as are all gauge lights. |
Scuse me for butting in - but is it a joint stop and tail bulb with 2 filiments ? |
certainly is - just figured out that it's blown all both tail lamp bulbs and the plate light. must be a short somewhere. anyone know where the fuel tank breather is? is it the rubber grommet unter the filler flap? |
I had something similar recently. No rear light, but brake light fine. Indicators fine. Headlight fine etc. I also didn't have any dash lights though. Turned out to be a wiring fault in the ignition switch. Don't know much more than that. Had it fixed at mechanic's and that's what they said! |
