Speedo has packed up Out on Monday for a ride and the speedo has suddely stopped working and the milo/trip has also stopped. I guess it is cable operated but a (though) normally the speedo swings wildly or bounces if the cable goes. Any ideas? or is it off to Ducati Leeds for wallet session? Thanks in advance etc... |
Leave it for a little while and get some "free mileage" out of it! Just kidding, don't know mate. |
the cable may have snapped, quite common as the attachment near the front wheel often gets spun round .... have a look ... new cables are cheap froma dealer anyhow |
if you don't want to bust your wallet then have a look at it your self. just whip the Speedo cable out and see if its broken (most likely will be) |
I've got a spare speedo cable from a 748. I bought it from eBay under the assumption that Ducati would probably use exactly the same part number cable for all bikes (like they do the speedo drive). Unfortunately the cable for 748/9**'s is shorter than I need for my ST I got it for a fiver, you can have it for the same plus P&P if you want it. |
might be the drive on the front wheel cos for some reason when built they are dry. and the full drive is only just over twenty pounds but like others have said go for the cable first. |
mmmm... I've had my Rev counter pack in when a fuse has blown. Have you looked there? |
The speedo on the pre 999 series is a mechanical item, not electrically operated like the tacho. |
Check the plastic speedometre drive gear unit on the axle. My unit got cracked, either from an improper installation during a tyre change or from road debris impact. |
wow! shazaam thats a short reply for you today! :D |
