Is there much point in it as it can be opened with your hand not using the key.

Or maybe its just mine, anybody elses do this?

Another thing is that my Meta 357t v2 does not go off if the seat is lifted. Should there be some sort of micro switch?

Seems a bit pointless having the alarm as in 2 seconds got the seat open, with out tools or key, and able to disable the alarm.

Don't know about the alarm...but I think all 7**/9** seats can be lifted without a key so I wouldn't bother about getting the lock sorted out, its nonsense anyway!

I never use the key for my seat lock...its quicker the 'other' way.

Its monted on the plastic under tray, its tiny but looks well installed wiring wise, but the siren part could be filled with foam or something then the bike is carried off.

Can't see it being 'thatcham' approved this way.

Anyone elses go off when the seats lifted?

Your alarm should have a micro switch to cover the area where it's mounted. In your case when the seat is lifted it should go off. In weeksys case for example the fairing panel should be protected.
This is a requirement of the Thatcham installation certificate.

Would it make any difference if the alarm went off, nobody takes any notice of them. The organised light fingered b&£$%*ds are usually so quick that you dont get much chance to do anything about it?

Have to agree, but like so many things if the switch wasn't there, it could give the insurance company a great big loop hole to jump through????

Thats what i thought as my mate had an R6 with a Datatool alarm and there was a microswitch on the pillion seat.

Was worried when I first got bike but thought at least the seat is locked.

But now you can open it with your hands, seems more important than any other bike that it should have a micro switch on it.

I have a certificate of fitting with 'Thatcham' on it. would i be better off letting Meta or Thatcham know as surely this is not correctly installed?

Will phone dealer tommorow and ask why.

Lee let me know how you get on as the datatool alarm on my 996 is fitted under the seat. I've never seen any micro switch, but the alarm does go off if you as much as sneeze near the bike.

BTW its a good idea to cover the alarm in cling film, they seem prone to water damage when locaed under the seat.

My mates R6 used to be like that one touch and off it goes. This Meta one needs a good shake or to be stood upright.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Mines right in the middle so shouldn't get any water on it, but is supposed to resin sealed. Soon see when it rains

Nigel, depending upon the model of alarm you can decrease the sensitivity a little by unscrewing the mounting screws a little.
The unit shouldn't be screwed down tight anyhow. It won't fall off as it should be mounted into well nuts.
It should feel secure but not really tight.
