damn right they are, 999 good looking, they must have had one given to them so they cant say anything but.
it will be a memorable day when Ducati launch their new model and remove that hidious 999-749 from the factory.:D

KeefyB 23-Apr-2006 19:13

I was,in fact joking.
In my opinion, the 749/999 mono seat/tank is a sculptured work of art.
I love my 999.

Jools 23-Apr-2006 20:34

I love 999's too, they look terrific in the metal and go even better.

I think they're spot on about the 888 as well. To my eyes they are utterly gorgeous, which is why I bought one when I could've had a 996 or a 749S for the same sort of dosh.

I can't fathom why the 916 wasn't in PB's list either, because they are undoubtedly a a gorgeous iconic bike. p'raps their journos are just as fed up as I am that some people think that they are the only Ducati worth didley and never tire of ramming it down yer throat

twpd 23-Apr-2006 20:42

These day I'm tending towards an ssie being the best looking despite me owning a 4-valver as well. I love the simplicity of the ssie, the supermono derived looks and the on-road performance. My 800ss feel very much like a 748 in many ways - just less power but more torque and just as quick on the road It's shame they're so underrated and overlooked.

The thing is Jools, when something is written about the 996-998, the 999 owners are just as quick to slate it even more.
The 999 will never be as popular as the 916-996-998. Cant see a problem when someone like me only thinks that the 916 ect is the best that Ducati have made, is it wrong to idolise one such bike?

1996 MV Brutale :puzzled:

I have been giving PB the benefit of the doubt as I admire Tim Thompson as an editor however I really think they've lost the plot now ....

Actually...I quite like the Brutale....
I have heard they don't perform too well but as a street fighter I think they are beautiful. The other one is the Cagiva Raptor.
Perhaps there's no accounting for taste:lol:

Stu748R 23-Apr-2006 21:39

Should have gone to specsavers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

KeefyB 23-Apr-2006 21:45

In a kitchen appliance sorta way!:lol::lol:

You, mate, are off your bleedin' trolley.... The SSie is the bike that reminds us how bad the 999 could really have been.:frog:

.. totally agree Lisa, it's just that it wasn't designed in 1996, the F4 was, the Brutale came along in 2000 as a design concept. Sorry, need to get out more :(

Maybe. But I will never buy a 749/99 cos they are so fugly in my eyes. You missed the crucial point for me - simplicity. the 749/99 is just a mess - bitty, complicated and untidy.

At last someone has seen the light and can see there is beautyin the 999. I dont see why the 916 is not there though as it should be without question:puzzled:
