SP5 dyno run-18/04/06-UPDATE

For those that asked(851neil),i am booked in at Dynobike at Malton on 18th April at 12 for my PC111 and dyno set up if you want to come and watch!

twpd 09-Apr-2006 22:47

Now there is a coincidence - I'm booked in there a couple of weeks later to verify my self-made map to see what their dyno reckons. ;)

851neil 10-Apr-2006 11:59

I'll be there - looking forward to it.
cheers

Neil

851neil 17-Apr-2006 19:27

Jasper, unfortunately can't make it - was really looking forward to seeing & hearing the bike - oh and meeting you as well ;)
soz mate, another time...
cheers

Neil

Jasper 17-Apr-2006 19:55

That's a shame,mate.Never mind,i'm going to video it!!Should be worth £250 if it snaps a belt and blows it's guts,when i send it to you've been framed!!

Charlie 17-Apr-2006 20:29

Are you going to record rwhp figures before and after Jasper?

Jasper 17-Apr-2006 20:54

I hope to.Unfortunately,i never had it dynoed with it's standard pipes,so the comparison will be with spaghetti with/without Power Commander.

Charlie 17-Apr-2006 21:06

I guess the results would not be a fair comparison from a while back anyway, as there will be a difference in results/reading day to day +/- %’s. Are you running Optimax? I remembered reading a while back on the yahoo group about octane ratings and their preferred results with low octane fuel are you not going to get it remapped as well, am not really familiar with the power commander?

Jasper 17-Apr-2006 22:23

I'm not running optimax,but yes,it is getting fully re-mapped.

Charlie 17-Apr-2006 22:33

Good luck tomorrow Jasper and will look forward to the results.

Old Yella 17-Apr-2006 22:40

Hey Jasp.

Hope it goes well.

Paul did my R6 a few weeks ago and got it running bob on with a lovely power curve and 104.95 bhp at the rear wheel with a standard engine and an end can so he can work miracles

He seems to know his stuff and wouldnt hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Hope you get what you expect out of it mate.

philthy 17-Apr-2006 23:57

That's about 4 bhp more than my 82 katana 1000.

Your r6 may steer slightly quicker however. The words supertanker and katana are occassionally mentioned in the same sentence:lol::lol::lol:

You never seen me ride

Jasper 18-Apr-2006 19:38

Well,it didn't blow up!!But God,did it sound like it was going to!!I will publish charts tomorrow.I now have 115hp/62 lbs/ft torque

Hard to say if there is an improvement,as i never had it dynoed without the spaghetti.

It went from 112 to 115 with the power commander, and the fueling is now spot on.I haven't ridden it yet,so don't know what it FEELS like!!

Jasper 18-Apr-2006 22:08

First run

JHP chip
Spaghetti

Jasper 18-Apr-2006 22:09

Final run:

pc111
spaghetti

Jasper 18-Apr-2006 22:10

power/torque from 8750 to 10,300,this is 4TH GEAR!

[Edited on 19-4-2006 by Jasper]

philthy 18-Apr-2006 22:32

Tell me if I'm wrong but it now looks like you've got a decent amount of torque from 2000 rpm whereas before it was from 3000 rpm. That should make a difference to the ride straight away. For me that's the whole point of ducati ownership, rather than having to rev the bikes nuts off.

Phil

Felix 18-Apr-2006 22:34

That looks like a VERY healthy power curve, Jasp. Just bring it by and I'll be happy to take it for a ride and tell you what she feeeeeeeeels like.:D

Nice one mate, you must be pleased.

Mr. R 18-Apr-2006 23:14

So is your bike just a starndard sp5,your own exhaust +power comm' or have you tuned the motor any further? This is a serious question,as my '92 strada 916 crank, pankl rods,v2 604 cams(996 sps),54mm throttle bodies heads flowed to match, alloy timming wheels.flywheel, mpl tit' slipper clutch and full 50mm high rise system goes to Moto rapido's dyno this saturday.I'm aiming for similar power to an sp5 but at lower revs,in the hope of keeping the motor in one piece. If i am disapionted i have 900 crank, titaniam?rods sp5 heads with 35mm inlet valves and full carbon inlet/airbox waiting the wings, also 54mm twin injector system. yours Steve R . Cornwall

Jasper 18-Apr-2006 23:38

I am very, very happy with it.Philthy,we concentrated alot on the bottom end,to try and get it to pull smoothly from the lower revs.Felix, you are welcoem to a go.Just need to bung that rear brake caliper on it,when you've finished!Mr R.,standard SP5 except Spaghetti, lightened flywheel and power commander.

Rob B 19-Apr-2006 07:55

Rich,

Well done mate. You must be pleased after all the hard work. Looks good indeed.

Rgds, Rob

851neil 19-Apr-2006 09:10

nice curves - hope mines as healthy and doesn't pop...
btw would you advise any running in period for what will effectively be a new motor or just go for it ???

Rob B 19-Apr-2006 09:24

Just threw mine straight on the dyno, what about you, Rich?

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 09:54

Unlike Neils, mine wasn't a new motor. So,just warmed her up and on she went!

twpd 19-Apr-2006 12:03

That is a superb torque curve - textbook even. :D

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 12:04

I videoed the top gear run,but don't know how to post a video.

Jools 19-Apr-2006 12:11

Hmmmm, nice, on the strength of that I'll buy you a beer when we get to the 888 meet up at Nelly's.

And while we're down the pub I'll bribe Nelly to swap your motor into my bike.

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 12:21

Your all heart,Jools.

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 13:34

Would you believe it.Went out to the garage, with a view to riding the bike today. Two pools of oil under each fork leg. Both fork seals have gone!!They were weaping a little before the dyno run,but that seems to have pushed them a little too far.Ordered some seals from JHP,.now going to strip the forks down!!:(

Old Yella 19-Apr-2006 13:36

Well pleased for you Jasp.

That looks like a decent spread of power you have yourself there, so whens it going on track to use it?

Is the Cadwell day the first time out for it or have you more planned mate?

When you fancy a ride out gis a shout mate, will be good to meet up again ;)

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 13:38

I've got to get some miles in before the TD!!So,hopefully we can meet up a few times before then.Shoulder and elbow still aren't 100% either,so need to get into the groove slowly!!

Old Yella 19-Apr-2006 13:53

Yeah right, slowly

Collect bike on saturday and got Mallory next week then two weeks before my next one so any time you fancy mate?

Felix 19-Apr-2006 14:13

Jasp, not sure if this is appropriate in your case, but I've put two springs on the fork seal on another bike that used to be prone to leaking and it extended the life by quite a bit. You simply take the springs out of the old seals and add them to new ones. You best check with someone more knowledgeable first, though.

Oh, and no worries about not having a rear brake caliper on your bike. I never use the rear brake anyway.;)

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 14:17

Felix,as they are stripped already,i'll put new ones in anyway. If you don't use the back brake, you might as well get rid of that "old" caliper!!

Iconic944ss 19-Apr-2006 14:39

Damn - thats a scupper marra - things were looking so good from reading the dyno chart.

Theres an ace website in my links for rebuilding the showa forks - but I get the impression your well practised at it now.

I've also heard good reports from Dynobike and might well be looking for a sesh once my spaghetti headers go on.

Will we get to see / hear 'The Beast' on a TD this year ???

Cheers - Frank

Felix 19-Apr-2006 14:54

Jasp, didn't mean to suggest reusing the old seals, but double the spring on the new ones.

Ray 19-Apr-2006 17:18

Nice one Jasper.

Thinking about a power commander for the 998, the fueling is still a bit on the lean side, maybe go for the quickshifter option as well, hoping to make the bike run on autopilot eventually so all I have to do is hang on!!

OYs bike might be giving good power but the Power to WEIGHT ratio is gonna be worse than a restricted Fizzy with him on board:P

Ray.

Jasper 19-Apr-2006 17:42

Ray,
your right there,i've heard he's using solid bar for forks,'cos there isn't a spring stong enough to cope with the weight!!

Frank,I'll be doing Cadwell Dsc with the bike.

Jasp, last time I saw you your leathers were getting a touch on the tight side, must have restricted your breathing or something to make you go that slow :P
