Will be interesting to compare rule books to see who allows what in the way of, tyres, tuning etc

Rattler 21-Nov-2006 21:02

Quoted from the MF site - may be out of date now though as changes seem to be the rule as each series tries to outdo each other;

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the initial press releases on the two classes...

ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy
-------------------------------

Cost: £12,040.25
Rounds: 8 (one day events)
Bike: Suzuki GSXR 600
Tyres: Dunlop (1 front and 1 rear?)
Kit: Dainese leathers, boots, gloves & back protector
Exhaust: Micron slip on can
Suspension: Revalved standard items
Brake Pads: Performance Friction
Other: Fairing & rear sets
Upgrades: None

Triumph 675 Triple Challenge
----------------------------------

Cost: £11,999.00
Rounds: 9 (two day events)
Bike: Triumph 675
Tyres: Michelin (2 front & 2 rears)
Kit: n/a
Exhaust: Unknown brand slip on can
Suspension: Standard items
Brake Pads: Unknown
Other: Fairing & rear sets
Upgrades: Improved suspension & additional tyres at extra cost

Initial observations, to me at least, would suggest that the GSXR is a more competitive class as everyone is on the same bike and cannot buy better suspension or more tyres over and above everyone else. It also includes a lot of riding kit in the deal.

The trade off is that the Triumph meetings will be run with a known organisation and will include a lot more track time (2 x qualifying and 3 x races vs 2 x races) and double the number of tyres.

NG Racing Junior Cup
-------------------------------

Cost: £9750 + VAT
Rounds: 12
Bike: Preped Yamaha R6
Tyres: currently working on a deal, I suspect they will be the same as the Virgin cup bikes run

Mid term top 3 will race in the R6 cup at the Moto GP round

KTM are still running the 660 Bracken Cup series with New Era aren't they?
I understand the 990 is running with BSB, with one round at the Donny GP.
Could be wrong tho!

I think one-make/model series are bad news for the technical diversity of racing. It gets dull. Skids...any news of NG's S-o-T & minitwin classes? Are they dropping them to make way for the new series cos that has a big impact on my racing plans for 2007.

Ozz 21-Nov-2006 22:34

The guy pictured on there no 76 is Ross Walter the local kid (well 18 I think) I sponsored for a few years. He won 125GP championship, did mediocre in R6 cup and was great this season on the 675 with some wins.

No news yet although MT and SoT are on the 2007 membership forms
possibly dropping one of the F600 races as they often had two quallifiers and tha A and B finals, they also ran the Open class in this way
