engine identity/size Hello, Right, this may be a stupid question but is there any stampings on a 996 engine that states that it is 996? I have looked for displacment stampings on the cases and barrels but I cannot see any. I can see an engine number but have not bothered to contact Ducati yet. DC:puzzled: |
The engine number will have the model in it: ZDM XXX A9 111111 Where ZDM = International reference for Ducati XXX = Engine Size A9 = Motorcycle/Engine Type 111111 = Serial Number The XXX will (obviously!) be 996 for a 996. |
The cc should be the 4th to 6th digits of the engine number. |
why is it that Antonye allways beats me to it! Anyway Ant how did you get on yesterday. |
There are also stampings on the heads to indicate spec, BP, S, SPS etc.. DUK can look up the spec from the enine number too, but i have been offered SPS motors with BP heads on them before! well worth checking |
Wilf, I think only the early (pre-2000) models have those - the ones with Ducati stamped into the valve covers? Nice to meet you yesterday morning at breakfast by the way, hope you did better than I did in the rain! |
antonye, I think the base models have nothing stamped on them but the S and R spec motors have stamped markings, the best way to check is take off a rocker cover and get the markings from the camshaft. Good to meet you too, had an average day, top fun tho.. I am complete pants in the rain, i have been racing 4 years and that was only my 3rd time ever using wets, really need some practice! and i thought it always rained in england! |
cheers for that guys. The engine I am looking at is from the states so the engine number is totaly different to the DUK stampings. Guess an e mail or two will have to do. DC |
what's the shipping on that gona cost ? |
